History

The ABA is founded in 1967 and becomes a concurrent league of the NBA until its fusion in 1976. 4 teams ABA (on the 7 having disputed until its term the ultimate season) join the NBA at the time of this fusion: the New Jersey Nets, Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, and San Antonio Spurs.

The first police chief of the league was George Mikan, celebrates it pivot of the Lakers. It is him which had the idea to introduce the emblem symbolic system of the ABA: a white ball blue, red and (with the colors of the American flag) in the place of the traditional orange balloon.

The ABA was distinguished from the NBA by a play more opened and directed towards the attack, as by some differences in the rules (a 30 second old clock compared with the 24 seconds in NBA). The ABA was also the first professional league to introduce the line of the 3pts (beyond the 6m25, a basket successful account three points). The offensive style of the ABA attracted many fans, but the absence of televised cover, associated with financial losses reflect fine with the activity of this league.

Many players in ABA made the beautiful days of the NBA, most famous being Julius Erving, but one can also quote Connie Hawkins, George “Ice” Gervin, David Thompson, George McGinnis, Artis Gilmore or Moses Malone (twice MVP in NBA)
