America\' S Best Comics
America' S Best Comics (or ABC) was a collection of cartoons published by Wildstorm, created in 1999 by Alan Moore under the impulse of Jim Lee whereas its studio still made party of Image Comics.
Moore launched under this label several very appreciated series; most known is The League off Extraordinary Gentlemen , which gathered several famous characters of fiction of the era victorienne. There was also Tom Strong , a homage to the heroes of the pulps like Doc. Savage; Signal 10 , history, with the manner of television series like Urgencies or NYPD Blue, of a police station in a city from which all the inhabitants have super-capacities; and Promethea , one of the most personal work of Moore which presented its ideas concerning the magic.
Peter Hogan and Rick Veitch had their own derived mini-series, respectively Terra Obscura and Greyshirt: Indigo Sunset , and Steve Moore (no family tie) Co-wrote Tom Strong' S Terrific Tales with Moore.
With the number of the artists having to collaborate regularly in the line, one finds Kevin O' Neill, Chris Sprouse, Rick Veitch, J.H. Williams III, Gene ha, Zander Canon, Kevin Nowlan, Hilary Barta, Melinda Gebbie, Jim Baikie, Yanick Paquette, and Arthur Adams.
The lettering of all the titles ABC was ensured by Todd Klein, except for The League off Extraordinary Gentlemen which was entrusted to Bill Oakley.
Wildstorm was sold later with cd. Comics without Moore not knowing it, but Moore had sworn several years more early than he would work never again for cd.
After Lee moved in England to speak about it with him, Moore, initially reticent, accepted finally the new situation, having promised work with some of his/her friends artists in the late line Awesome Comics of Rob Liefeld.
As Moore announced, the universe of the label finishes with the end of the 32e episode of Promethea , in which the universe ABC faces the Apocalypse. Two special issues of 64 pages of Tomorrow Stories crown the whole.
Before the publication of these numbers, the line ABC continued still a little with other scenario writers. Tom Strong , for example, was written by invited authors since November 2003: Peter Hogan, Geoff Johns, Mark Schultz, Steve Aylett, Brian K. Vaughan, ED Brubaker and Michael Moorcock. There exists also one following Top 10 baptized Beyond The Farthest Precinct written by the writer Paul Di Filippo and drawn by Jerry Ordway, and ABC A-Z, a series of six one-shot scenarized by Peter Hogan revealing the secrecies of the characters ABC.
The recent remarks of the producer Joel Silver in connection with the adaptation of V for Vendetta pushed Moore to be ceased working definitively with cd. Comics. The next adventures of The League off Extraordinary Gentlemen which do not form part of the universe ABC will thus be published by Top Shelf.
