America\' S Army

America' S Army is a play of shooting to the first nobody multijouor. The first version, subtitled " Recon ", left on July 4th, 2002 by the army étatsunienne in order to improve the image of the US Army and to encourage people to enlist. It is available free for Windows. A bearing Xbox and Playstation 2 at summer carried out in collaboration with Ubisoft. The bearing of the versions Linux and Mac OS X was abandoned with version 2.6. Since version 2.8 the play integrates an editor of charts based on the Unreal Engine.

Many international competitions proceed on this play, one can quote the TWL (“TeamWarfare League”) and the CALEAGUE (“Cyberathlete Amateur League”) where the levels are very high. At the French-speaking level, one can quote the championship " Road off Glory" (RoG) launched in September 2006. In September 2007, RoG will start its third season.

Principles of play

General information

The player incarnates a soldier of US Army on charts of the attack type. Before being able to play on line, it must achieve a series of basic drives. It can also carry out additional drives which will enable him to play like doctor, marksman, parachutist and special force. The characteristic of this play is that the player always sees himself like a soldier of US Army, and always sees its enemies like a foreign force, that it chooses of going in the team of attack or defense. The player has the choice between charts known as " multijoueurs" or of the charts " coopération". In the first case, two teams of human players clash, while in " coopération" a human team is opposed to IA play.

Strategy

Contrary to good number of FPS where the play consists in sinking and to draw on all that moves, AA encourages the strategy and team work. Thus, in the high level parts, one often sees evolving/moving the soldiers by small groups from 2 to 4. Like, during the same part, the soldiers do not have the same equipment, it is particularly interesting to join in order to form general-purpose bunches. This specificity indisputably influences the way in which the players evolve/move but obviously AA concerned of infiltration like the series Commandos does not transform.

Hierarchy, honor and experiment

Moreover, each player has an account in line which is updated at each official part. As the player progresses, it thus gains points of experiment which enable him to improve its honor (" honor"). Contrary to the roleplays this experiment does not bring of additional capacities to the player. However, it confers a certain prestige to the player who is in a hurry to increase his honor. It is also a means of repression of the disrespectful players: indeed if a soldier wounds or kills out of the members of his team, it loses experiment. The scale of the honor is organized like this:

The government of the USA released a budget of $7' 000 ' 000 to develop this play and its development is envisaged over 10 years. The play is based on the graphic engine Unreal Engine 2.5, is developed by Epic and is used in particular for Unreal Tournament 2004. It will pass to Unreal Engine 3 to version 3.0 of the play. The current version of America' S Army is " Special Forces: Coalition".
