Amebix

Amebix is a group formed in England in 1978 and considered as one of the precursors of the kind punk Crust. Their music was strongly influenced by Motörhead, like Black Sabbath and Killing Joke, with a vision of the world similar to that of Crass. The group remained active in studio until in 1987 but continued however to make rounds until the beginning of the Années 1990.

The style of Amebix mixed elements of punk Hardcore and heavy metal to form a kind of Thrash metal. Groups like Sepultura, Neurosis, Napalm Death or Deviated Instinct paid homage to the formation.

History

Amebix was formed by Rob Miller (called the Baron ) with her brother Stig, Andy Billy Jug and Clive whereas they were at the school of Devon in 1978. They were called at the beginning The Band With No Name (“the group without name”) and played primarily in their area. They recorded a demonstration with 6 pieces and Rob Miller benefitted from her work of chronicler in a local newspaper to transmit a cassette to Crass at the time of a concert with Plymouth. The piece University Challenged present on the demonstration, appeared on compilation Bullshit Detector the Crass Records.

The beater Andy Jug was replaced by Martin of which the parental house with Dartmoor was useful for the repetitions. It is at that time that the group found a new name: Amebix . The parents of Martin decided to withdraw it group and was sent to London where he suffered from a depression and where he discovered his paranoid schizophrenia.

The group engaged then Norman with the keyboards and decided to move with Bristol, while living in several Squat S. They collaborated with the Disorder group, in particular with the guitar Virus which took part in their first individual. The members also sank in the world of drug during these four last years with Bristol.

Whereas Amebix recorded No Sanctuary with the Southern Studios, they met Jello Biafra Dead Kennedys which proposed to them to join its label, Alternative Tentacles. Amebix became the first English group to leave an album with this label in 1985 ( Arise ). The following album, Monolith , left only in 1987. The group stopped producing albums but continued however during a certain time to make rounds, with a last concert with Sarajevo little before the implosion of the Yugoslavia.

Certain members formed the Zygote group. The singer Rob Miller lives now on the Isle off Skye and manufactures sabers.
