Ambrussum
Ambrussum is old a Gallic oppidum located on the Voie Domitienne on the territory of the commune of Villetelle.
Located not far from Lunel, between Nimes and Montpellier, Ambrussum is famous also for the Pont Ambroix , painted by Gustave Courbet (Musée Fabre).
The origin of the word ambrussum remains obscure. The root ambr- is not by rare in Gaulle, Spain or Italy (see for example the Ombriens).
The city owed its expansion with the road traffic. The city preserves Roman Thermes, substructions of residences, an enclosure but especially a whole of paved streets used by the passage of the carriages.
The low city was transformed at the time into a very important transport cafeé, with several tabernae .
