Ambrogio Figino

Ambrogio Figino or Giovanni Ambrogio Figino (Milan, 1553 - 1608) is an Italian painter of the Maniérisme lombard.

Biography

Raise Giovanni Paolo Lomazzo in 1564, Figino imposes itself in the Milanese artistic panorama initially as portraitist.

Its effigy of Ambrogio Annoni, which one can allot to him with certainty, watch a meticulous capacity to return the details worthy of the Flemish painting. In the first years the 1580 artist receives Jesuits the order for two retables, in San Fedele: the Madonna beyond Bill hook (inspired by the Caravage, 1581-1583) and the Incoronazione della Vergine (1585-1586).

In these years, probably the Roman voyage of Figino goes up. The Eternal City where seat the art of Michel-Angel, in addition to its studies of old art, is decisive for its formation, as it is obvious in its following paintings, like the very beautiful Saint Matthieu and the Angel , even reinterpreted according to a table of Caravage.

Its retable of Sant' Ambrogio che sconfigge Ario , today with the Art gallery of Brera (whose another version is in the church of Sant' Eustorgio) date of 1590.

In 1590 also, are the Passaggio del Mar Rosso and the Natività , a series of organ cases of the Dôme of Milan, left stopped by Giuseppe Meda, which would have been then supplemented by Camillo Procaccini.

Of 1599, date the fabric of Jupiter and Io painted following an exceptional ordering of the emperor Rodolphe II of the Holy roman Empire (today in Pavia, Pinacoteca Malaspina).

In its last years of its life, Figino carries out a vast cycle of paintings for San Vittore Al Corpo, the church of Olivétains of Milan.

A painting of Figino, the Fruttiera di persici (of fishing), is regarded as an incunable Italian still life.
