Amblève (river)

The Amblève (German: Amel ) is a river of Ardenne in the Province of Liege in Belgium. It takes its source with Honsfeld in the commune of Bullange, at an altitude of approximately 600 meters. The river is thrown in the Ourthe near Comblain-with-Bridge.
Flow
The medium flow observed with Comblain-with-Bridge between 1995 and 2004 is of 19,5 m ³ a second. During the same period one recorded:
- an average maximum of 24,96 m ³ in 2002.
- an average minimum of 11,4 in 1996.

Affluents
The principal affluents of Amblève are:
- the Warche, out of Right Bank, passing in particular to Malmedy
- the Red Water, out of Right Bank, which accommodates the road racing set of Spa-Francorchamps in its valley
- the Salm, out of left bank, sprinkling Vielsalm
- the Roannay
- the Lienne, out of left bank, resulting from the area of Lierneux
- the Ninglinspo, out of Right Bank, and its tourist course
- the Rubicon, out of Right Bank
Rubicon is an underground river which formed the cave of Remouchamps. This one, opened to the public since 1912, offers on more than 600 meters the longest underground navigation of the world.
Famous sites
To the village of Coo, between Three-decker and Stoumont, a recut meander of the river gives rise to the Cascade of Coo, the greatest water fall of Belgium. The dead meander is used in addition as basin lower than the hydroelectric station of Coo.
Out of Right Bank, around Sprimont, is the site of the Beautiful-Rock, fossil cave and older known place of human occupation of the Benelux (approximately 500.000 years). The Fonds of Quareux concern the major Patrimoine of Wallonia.

Poère French Guillaume Apollinaire, which one knows that it resided in its youth at Stavelot, for a short stay but outstanding, remembered the pearls of Amblève (coming from fresh water mussels pearl-bearing) in the poet assassiné" (1916).
