Amber

Amber is an abandoned city of the India, the old capital of the State de Dhundhar, famous in 1727 Jaipur during the displacement of its capital, in the Rajputana.

History

The name of Amber is mentioned for the first time by Ptolémée. Founded by the tribe of the Undermined, it is taken, in 1037, by the Rajput S Kachhwâhâ, which make their capital until of it they give up it with the profit of Jaipur, a built modern city, in 1727, on a plan with checkerwork by the Mahârâja Jai Singh II, with ten kilometers.

Inheritance

The picturesque situation of the fortress of Amber, with the outlet of a throat of mountain, in which niche a beautiful lake, attracted the admiration of all the travellers. It remains always remarkable for its architecture. The old palate started with Man Singh I towards 1600 is exceeded only by that of Gwâlior. The principal building is the Diwan-i-Khas built by Mirza Râja.
“At once,” it is told “that Mirza had completed Diwan-i-Khas, it came to the ears from the emperor Jahângîr that its vassal had exceeded it in magnificence, and that this last masterpiece eclipsed all the wonders of the imperial city; the columns of red sandstone had particularly struck by their carved ornamentation of an exquisite taste and with a richness of details. In an explosion of jealousy, the emperor ordered that this masterpiece is thrown to bottom and that emissary are sent to Amber to carry out this order; Learning that, Mirza, in order to safeguard its work, made cover the columns with Stuc, so that the messengers of Âgrâ, to return towards to the emperor, testified that this so-called magnificence, about which one had spoken so much, was only one pure and simple invention. Since then, its successors had neglected to update this splendid work; it is only at the time of the fall of part of the Plâtre that one could redécouvrir the sculptures, perfect as at the day when they were finished. ”

The city is since the Sixties again in rise of populations: 6500 in 1961,20.460 in 1991. It includes/understands many temples hindouists like very beautiful Jagat Shiromani (towards 1610), jaïns and the Mosquée of Akbar (1569) restored by Aurangzeb.
