Ambérieu-in-Bugey is a common French, located in the department of the Ain and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

It is more the big city of the district of Belley. It is Chef-lieu Canton of Ambérieu-in-Bugey, which gathers 8 communes and 19  728 inhabitants. It is also the principal city of the south of the historical area of the Bugey.

It is located at the junction of the Ligne Mâcon - Ambérieu with the Ligne Lyon - Geneva.

History

Ambérieu-in-Bugey its name with the presence in the area of a Celtic tribe, the Ambarres owes. From where the name of the current inhabitants of the city: Ambarrois.

Places and monuments

  • the Château of Allymes is a fortress of the 13th century, altered at the 16th century. It was asked by the Dolphin of Vienna in order to protect the surroundings. It is the only specimen of medieval fortress of the Bugey and offers an exceptional point of view. It was classified Historic building in 1960, to see here.

Ambarbus is the joint grid system of the city. Created in 2000 per one 6 months trial period, it functions always today and saw its frequencies increasing. It consists of only one circular line whose starting point the morning is SNCF railway station. It passes a minibus every 50 minutes of 6:25 (first departure) to 21:00 (arrived last), Monday to Saturday.

There are two colleges with Ambérieu-in-Bugey:
  • the vocational school;
  • the general high school (known as solar college because of the Solar panels which covered it with its construction). This college prepares the general and technical baccalaureats, like certain BTS. March 10th, 2006, a Mini-tornado, which moved and reversed several vehicles, damaged the college slightly, without making casualties.
