Amédée Ier of Spain
Second wire of Victor-Emmanuel II, king of Sardinia.
After the Revolution of 1868, Spain becomes a Constitutional monarchy. The the Cortes are put in the search of a king, the task is difficult and it is necessary to await the November 16th 1870 to find the good candidate: Amédée of Savoy .
But the general Juan Prim, his main ally, dies assassinated before the future king does not arrive at Madrid. Incompetent to put order in the disturbed political climate of the time, this last abdicates two years later, the February 11th 1873.
He leaves then in Italy and carries the title of Duc of Aoste.
