Alvorada

Alvorada is a city of the Brésil.

The September 22nd 1952, the law nº 216 created the 3rd District of Viamão, under the name Passo C Feijó.

The law of the State of the Rio Grande C Sul - RS nº 5026 of September 17th, 1965, guaranteed the political emancipation of Passo C Feijó, which changed name for Alvorada. This name was suggested by one of the Members of the Commission pro-emancipation which referred to two factors: awakening of the people which awake at the first hours of the morning (" alvorada " mean " paddle " , in Portuguese) and leaves to work, and Palácio da Alvorada, the great symbol of the new capital of the country, Brasilia, inaugurated in 1960.

History

The original demarcation of the installation of the current town of Alvorada was done with the great land concession granted to João Batista Feijó, in May 1776. Among the families which inicièrent the settlement of the place were Feijó, Barcellos, Souza, Garcia, Malta, Dihi, Godoy, inter alia. Some of them count still to date among the notable buildings and those of Viamão, of the territory duquelle the city formed part before its emancipation in clean Municipality.

Economy

Alvorada is a " city-dortoir" , where come to live the poorest layers of the workmen of the agglomeration of Large Porto Alegre and the Rio Grande C Sul. The price of the ground being very low, these categories of population is drained towards the Municipality. 60% of the population are active, but that does not mean that the remainder is without resources, the informal sector and the collateral activities with the traffics, related to the great poverty of the place, generating an underground economic activity. The rate of criminality and violence is there among highest of the area.
