Alvarezsaurus

General information

Alvarezsaurus is small a Dinosaure higher Cretaceous (Coniacien (89,3 to 85,8 million years)) who lived in Argentina. He was discovered in the Bajo Formation of Carpa. Fossils of this specimen were found in Mongolia and Argentine.

Etymology

Alvarezsaurus means the lizard of Alvarez

Alvarezsaurus calvoi was named by the paleontologist Jose Bonaparte in 1991 in the honor of the historian Gift Gregorio Alvarez.

The standard species is A. calvoi.

Anatomy

Alvarezsaurus, of the family of alvarezsauridés, is a dinosaur with feathers. It had a long neck, of small forefeet and of the dismantled posterior legs. Considering its aspect, this dinosaur was to be cut for the race. It was approximately 2 m long and weighed 20 kg roughly. It was biped, had a long tail. It may be that it was insectivorous like Mononykus and Shuvuuia. It was alternatively classified with the primitive dinosaurs theropodes not-avian and birds.

Inventory of the found fossils

One found vertebrae, the scapula, a partial basin, part of the lower extremities and the teeth. None cranium was not found.
