Alucard is the main character of the Manga Hellsing of Kōta Hirano. If he is the most powerful combatant of the Hellsing organization, everything leads us to believe that this statute can easily extend on the rest of the world.
History of Alucard
Profile of the character
Alucard is one of the first vampires having existed, if it is not the first. Generally vêtu of a rather decayed costume probably going back from the 19th century and its famous coat bright red as well as its hat, Alucard has the short hair and dishevelled, and raises a pair of glasses to yellow reflections. Nevertheless, according to the fact that it raised the seals - barriers having for goal to limit the use of its capacities or not, its aspect changes. It is found then with long hair fleeing until in the bottom of its back and exchanges its eternal coat against a covered black leather combination of buttons, holding more strait jacket that costume of hero. It should be noted that it can also carry a behavior much more modern to travel. It has a vast repertory of supernatural capacities and is an expert with the combat with the firearms: its superhuman force enables him to use the strange ones and imposing guns that human could not handle. That which is ceaseless thirsty for combat, which made “run oceans of blood” and which is constantly in the search of a new challenge, has nevertheless a great honesty. Indeed, Alucard has strong various feelings of nature which bind it with certain members of Hellsing and in particular its Master, Integra Hellsing, which carries out a war without mercy against the vampires.
Personality of Alucard
Readily wild - even sadistic in its engagements, Alucard is shown often extremely cruel, seldom attacking to kill as long as its target was not mutilated and completely humiliated. Its disproportionate but justified cynicism and its ego make it act of kind to let accept its enemy that this last can gain, before bitterly bringing back it to reality; all that with an aim of affirming its superiority. Because of its undeniable power and of its dignity, he regards himself rightly as being the elite of Nosferatu and does not obstruct itself to treat its congeneric waste, regarding them even often as lower than the human ones, who however prove sometimes to be “simple dogs dominated by their desires”.Nevertheless, behind its sufficient and arrogant attitude, Alucard seems deeply sad and envieux the human ones. The latter are mortals, which is seen like a blessing for Alucard, since cannot die to him and is condemned to cross time and the times for eternity. Progressively of its existence, Alucard forged the idea that the life has need for died to be invaluable. Alucard chose to become a vampire when it was turned over against God, but its regrets especially come to have wanted to escape death. All its feelings are shown to us through various chapters of the manga, such as the moment when Alucard becomes insane of rage when Anderson transpierces the heart with the nail of Holy Helene (Nail having been used for the Crucifixion of the Christ), thus making the same error as him: to become a monster in order to arrive at its ends. This attitude thus reveals that Alucard is hopelessly with the research of the person who will be able finally to kill it, and that could be done only by the hand of an human being - a monster which cannot overcome it. It is also the reason for which it proves to be terribly disappointed when Anderson gives up its humanity, putting thus fine at the hopes finally to be able to die for one, and at the chances to be able to gain the combat for the other.
Its supernatural capacities
Its capacities
Among its very many pourvoirs supernatural, Alucard is able to call upon the hearts of all those which it killed and of which it drank blood. These hearts prisionnières of Alucard can appear in various forms according to its will. It can also call upon demons which are apparently subjected to him, thus it called upon the Cromwell at the time of a combat against Luke Valentine. In the legend, Cromwell is a demon with the appearance of two dogs which would be the origin of the fear and the nightmare. The Gods, fearing this creature, would have sealed its body and its spirit in that of the first vampires so that they can maintain it imprisoned (the latter watering blood in order to draw energy vital necessary to the maintenance of the prison which they are). Certain vampires (especially among the natives) could call upon the part of Cromwell which sommeille in them in order to make use of it against their enemies. Invoquer Cromwell is a thing of an enormous cruelty, come down to plunge the victims of the fate in a nightmare eternal.
The restriction of its capacities
The vast capacities of Alucard would be of nature apocalyptic and are thus controlled by the family Hellsing whose each member with the capacity inherits the command (today Integra Hellsing). It is revealed to us in work that there are 6 levels of restriction: The smaller the figure accompanying the restriction is, the more the level of the capacity in question is large. In certain circumstances, Alucard can release some of its greater capacities by its own will without to be released of any restriction. At a given moment of the manga, Integra request so that the restrictions are raised up to level zero, in other words giving access to him entirely and without limitation all its capacities as devastators as appalling. The only thing which can then still reach Alucard is its constraint towards its Master. To also note that at this time, it returns to its orginelle form where it was still Vlad Tepes alias Vlad III Dracula. I.e. it appears with a body and a face similar to his when it was still human, raising a fine beard and a moustache while carrying a heavy armor médiavale and a very long sword. Nevertheless, Alucard will quickly find its usual form of vampire when he confronts ultimate once with the Anderson Father.
Alucard alias Vlad Tepes, alias Dracula
Alucard is not other than the anagram of Dracula, the mythical vampire resulting from the novel éponyme of Bram Stoker. Inspired itself of a real character, the count Dracula would be the allegory of Vlad III Dracula, prince de Valachie. When it reigned as from 1448, it obtained two nicknames: " Tepes" (Empaleur) and " Dracula" (Devil). Of a cruelty without similar, it shows a diabolic ingeniousness to get rid of its enemies who points out the way of doing of Alucard. Vlad III would have impaled hundreds of thousands of men, and in particular the German traders of Transylvania, members of the old nobility, as well as the Turk-Othomans.In chapter 70 of the manga, the author shows the past of the main character, when Alucard was still human. He thus puts in scene the life of this last when he was still Vlad Tepes.
Past of Alucard as Vlad Tepes
Born in Transylvania in 1431, Vlad saw its first years at the court of his/her father, Vlad II the Dragon, prince of Valachie. He and its family seem to be deeply believers and are dedicated to the Christianisme. In 1442, whereas it is 11 years old, his/her father is forced to send it like hostage to the sultan Murad II, with his young brother Radu III Elegant the. He is imprisoned in Turkey during six years when he often is whipped and violated, that it is by the guards Turkish or by the sultan, Murad II. It is slackened in 1448 to find his father assassinated and his alive buried older brother. In 1462, whereas Vlad has sat on the throne of Valachie for already six years, the sultan Mehmed II, wire of Murad, decides to punish Vlad after having learned the execution from his emissary. He enters in Valachie with an army three times more important than that of Vlad whereas this last is with Târgovişte. When the sultan arrives at Târgovişte, he is confronted with a vision of terror: on thousands of piles, the bodies of more than 20.000 Turkish are impaled, a terrifying scene which was called “the Forest of the Stakes”. Mehmed II recognizes its defeat against Vlad called Vlad Tepes (" Vlad Empaleur") and prefers to leave its place to the combat with Radu III, the youngest brother of Vlad, candidate of the Turks for the throne of Valachie. With the head of the made up Turkish army men whom he convinces to join his camp rather than to obey Vlad, Radu III continues his brother to the Poenari Castle, on Arges. The woman of Vlad, believing her died husband, commits suicide by throwing top of cliff - a scene exploited by Francis Ford Coppola in the film Bram Stoker 'S Dracula. Vlad, as for him, succeeds in escaping from the seat of its fortress, by borrowing a secrete way through the mountain, but it is captured and imprisoned by the Hungarian King during twelve years. It finds finally the throne in 1476 but the Turks attack it again. Given up by its allies and its people, it is overcome and condemned to decapitation. In the manga of Hirano, one of the rapes undergone by Vlad child by the sultan is put in scene for two reasons: in order to show its infernal condition at the court of the Large Turk but also to emphasize the fact that he never complained with God, even in the worst sufferings. He relies on him and its smile almost force when he holds his pendentive Christ at the time of his brutal rape proves it. Vlad is décrié here like a man deeply believing. He never complains and does not request God because according to him, the acts count more than the word. God would reward those which act, and not those which claim. Thereafter, Vlad Tepes spent its time fighting for God. As it is known as at the time of the narration, for Vlad, to fight the Turk-Othomans, it is to request God. To fight come down to be requested, because it fights against the infidels. And continues thus unbounded because it is persuaded to prepare the return of God on Earth and to be rewarded consequently.
Only nothing will make there. Its country is devastated, his massacred them (partly by him, judging that some deaths are nothing so in against part that allows to save more the alive ones). The Othoman Turks ended up conquering the Valachie, and it finishes again at the court of the Large Turk, but this time for its execution. At the time of the scene of decapitation, when the weapon of the torturer is on the point of slicing his head, Vlad seems to re-sift all the things which occurred during its life: of its imprisonment by the Turks, of the war which it carried out against the infidels, of the sentences which it inflicted with those of its country. All that it did, it did it for God. During all this time, it could never have lost faith in its convictions. But whereas it is about to be killed, it carries out the truth: God betrayed it and gave up. The blade of the torturer is on the point of decapitating Vlad, but will cause only to destroy the cross of the Christ which this last carried. It is with this image symbolic system that one includes/understands how and why Vlad became a vampire. This same vampire which will become the Count Dracula, and which later will be called Alucard by Arthur Hellsing, the father of Integrated.
Alucard/Dracula
Apart from chapter 70 of the manga putting in Alucard scene when it was still Vlad Tepes, there exist other indices or winks which accentuate the idea that Alucard and Dracula are well only one and even nobody.-
In the first Volume, it is suggested that Alucard was captured 100 years before the history of Hellsing does not start. What corresponds at the time in which the account of the novel of Bram Stoker proceeds.
- In Volume 3 (and the OAV 3), Alucard makes impale a group heavily armed with the special forces of the Brazilian police force (SPOILS) outside a hotel of Rio de Janeiro, which points out the favorite method of Vlad Tepes.
- In Volume 4 (and the OAV 2), Alucard makes a dream which is not other than a reminiscence, in which it is transpierced by a pile on the level of the heart by a man which would thus seem to be Abraham Van Helsing (character of the novel of Bram Stoker), this saying man: “Even the mark caused by the host left its invaluable flesh. It will never belong to you. ” The " elle" referred certainly to Mina Harker (another character of the novel), with which Dracula, seeing in it the reincarnation of its beloved, inflicted the curse of the vampirism in order to endorse it. Thereafter, she suffered from an allergic reaction when she was touched by the host on the level of the face at the point to have a burn. The mark disappeared after death supposed from Dracula. During the dream, the man in question addresses himself to Alucard by calling it “Count”, Dracula having itself the title of Count.
- In Volume 7, when the HMS Eagle moves towards London, with Alucard on its board, to join thus Integra Hellsing, the narrator makes the one similar last moment description referring to the voyage of Dracula starting from the Transylvania: “It is told that one day a vampire joined England to find the woman whom it loved. This vampire came on board a sailing ship… It crossed the seas to sharp pace, emmitouflé in a thick fog. Benefitting from the voyage to kill all the crew. The ghost ship entered to the wearing of London, without any survivor on board. Its name was the " Demeter" … Russian Dimitri. ”
- In Volume 8, Integra withdraws the restriction of the capacities of Alucard thus enabling him to be released of its chains, so that it can finally reveal its true capacities and call upon the hearts of its old victims. Thus appear RIP Van Winkle, Alhambra, and the thousands of other people of which it was watered during the last centuries (even the soldiers Turkish of the time of Vlad Tepes). These hearts make their appearance starting from an ocean of emanating blood of the coffin of Alucard. Among them knights are carrying the emblem of Valachie and overlapping damnés horses. Enrico Maxwell recognizes this badge, and, horrified by this vision, susurre the name of “Dracula”.
- In Volume 9, in the chapter Heart off Dream , it to us is shown a discussion enters Integra and its father, Arthur Hellsing. This last explains the reasoning to him which it forged on the vampires so much years after having observed one of them. To explain its opinion, it seems to take the case of a vampire in particular, he is implied that this vampire in question would be Alucard without to give its name. The names and names used by Arthur Hellsing to name this vampire are, inter alia, “Dracula” and “Count”.
- In the novel Carmilla of Sheridan Fanu treating myth of the vampire, we learn that the latter can use only their name of origin, or the anagram of this name. In Hellsing, it is tell to us that it is Arthur Hellsing which decided to re-elect Dracula Alucard (Alucard being the anagram of Dracula). It is not revealed why but the organization of Hellsing seems to want to hide the identity of Alucard as well to its allies as with its enemies.
- the creator of the manga Hellsing, Kouta Hirano declared that Alucard was 567 years old. This date agrees with that of Vlad Tepes, born in 1431, knowing that the manga starts in 1998.
