Altdorf is a common Switzerland, capital of the canton of Uri.

Geography

The village of Altdorf is located 458 m of altitude, in the plain of Reuss, little before the mouth of Reuss in the lake of the Four-Cantons.

Altdorf is known to be an area subjected to the foehn and the temperature of the air then reached there one of the highest values of Switzerland.

History

In 1899 was open the road of the Col of Klausen establishing a connection between the canton of Uri and the Canton of Glaris.
