Alpinum

The alpinum is a alpine Botanical garden specialized in the collection and the culture of the vegetable Espèce S pushing naturally with high-altitudes throughout the world. (the Caucasus, the Pyrenees, Rock, the Alps and until the the Himalayas).

These species push under severe natural conditions, extreme strong winds, temperatures, very short Cycle of vegetation, strong Insolation rich in particular in Ultraviolet, moisture and important nebulosity, period of relatively long snow.

It may be, as with the Botanical garden of Paris of the national Muséum of natural history, that the alpinum is part of a larger botanical garden.

It may be also, as in the case of the agglomeration of large Nancy, that the Botanical garden is close to a big city and has at the same time a alpinum and a garden of altitude having the advantage of showing at the same time the plant species in a garden and their natural environments of altiude.

Another case: the alpinum in High mountain it is then a specialized botanical garden, it exists ten in the French Alps about it…

Generally, this type of garden has the characteristic to be open only one small portion of the year. The season of closing going with the bad season and thus snowing up.

A collection of plants and rocks

More than a Collection of plants that can be also a very pretty collection of local rocks because in high mountain the plants are often fixed on the feeder bed rock of extremely different nature.

Missions in the gardens alpine (alpinum) S

We find the same one overall as those of a traditional Botanical garden but adapts to the set of themes one finds:

  • of the entertaining missions for the tourist reception

  • of the missions of study and conservation of the alpine flora with the botanical expertise and the conservation of rare species of the high mountains
  • of the teaching and educational missions through a sensitizing of the general public to the biodiversity of the flora of altitude
  • of the scientific expeditions

Organization of the collections

The presentation of the collections of the alpine plants is done generally in the form of artificial rubbles meeting the needs for presentation and integration to the often imposing landscapes.
