Alpine coaster
A Alpine coaster is an attraction hybrid mixing Russian Montagnes and Luge of summer and intended for the mountain medium. One finds this type of attraction mainly in Germany and Suisse. One of the principal manufacturers of alpine coaster is the company Wiegand, based in Germany.
Concept
The concept takes again that of the toboggans of summer, i.e. which they are free individual toboggans released on a tilted circuit. The user can act on speed thanks to a handle located in front of him; he can thus slow down, if he considers it necessary or then to leave the bearing free and thus to take more speed. The difference lies in the fact that the toboggans are placed here on rails of Russian the mountains type and cannot thus leave the track. That allows speeds slightly higher and especially, more safety in the turns. Moreover, the rails being elevated, alpine the coasters are also exploitable in winter.
Just like the Russian Toboggan S and mountains, this type of attraction uses only the potential energy available at the beginning of the descent.
In France
The concept is rather little répendu in France where there are only 3:- the Discovery , at the base of leisure Cape discovered (2002).
- alpine the coaster , with the Park of the combes (2007).
- the toboggan of summer , in the station of Colmiane (2007).
The French-speaking term " toboggan on rail " is sometimes used. The term of " Toboggan of summer " to indicate alpine a coaster is a Abus language, this term already indicating the toboggans with free bearing on concrete track.
