Alpine Accentor
The alpine accentor ( Prunella collaris ) is one of the two species of Accenteur S alive in France.
Systematic position
Traditionally the kind Prunella is classified in the family of the Prunellidés. In the classification of Sibley, Prunellidés are included in the family of the Passeridés.
Aspect
The alpine accentor resembles the Hedge sparrow, but one distinguishes it thanks to his bigger size. Its plumage is gray with russet-red sides, its throat is white with points black, while its tail is white. It weighs between 25 to 35 grams.
Habitat
It is a typical species of the high mountains. He lives above the trees in the mountainous mountain pastures. He likes to go down in the valleys in winter.
Reproduction
They have 2 brooded from 3 to 4 eggs per year. The eggs are generally of blue color. Incubation lasts 15 days and the nest is located in a crack of rock. One does not know exactly when they make their nest. The small ones take their take-off at 16 days.
Food
They eat insects, small seeds, spiders, worms and molluscs.
