Alphonse Leon Ferdinand Marie Jacques Isidore Pascal Antoine of Bourbon, (born with Madrid the May 17th 1886, deceased with Rome the February 28th 1941), king d' Espagne under the name of Alphonse XIII like King de Castille, of Leon, Aragon, of Jerusalem, of Navarre, Grenade, Tolède, Valence, Galicia, Majorque, Minorque, of Seville, of Cerdagne, Cordoue, Murcie, Jaén, of Algeciras, of Gibraltar, of the Canaries, of the Western and Eastern Indies, the continent océanien of 1886 until its renunciation in 1931, exiled under the title of “ duke of Tolède ”, he was applicant legitimist with the throne of France under the name of Alphonse Ier .
Elder of the Capétiens, He was the posthumous and single son of the king Alphonse XII of Spain (1857-1885), and of his second wife, the archduchess Marie-Christine of Austria (1858-1929), of the Maison of Habsbourg-Lorraine.
Alphonse XIII became king as of his birth. It remained it until the April 14th 1931, date on which it was driven out capacity by the republican Spanish. In exile it took the title of “duke of Tolède”.
The May 31st 1906 with Madrid, Alphonse XIII had married the princess Victoire Eugenie de Battenberg (1887-1969), girl of the prince Henri de Battenberg (1858-1896, and of his wife the princess Béatrice of England. From this marriage, whose celebration was endeuillé by an anarchistic attack which made tens of victims, were born seven children:
Then with the different death of sound cousin the duke of San Jaime to Vienna the September 29th 1936, prince Alphonse became elder descendants of Hugues Capet, of holy Louis, Henri IV and Louis XIV. The legitimists French then recognized it like king de France and of Navarre under the name of Alphonse Ier , and the Spanish carlists recognized it on their side like king of Espagnes and the Indies under the name of Alphonse XII .
Having made give up his/her two oldest sons their rights to the constitutional throne of Spain in 1933, prince Alphonse regarded from now on as his successor their brother the prince Jean (1913-1993), in favor which he abdicated the January 15th 1941. The prince Jacques, “duke of Anjou and Segovia”, challenged in 1949 his renunciation of 1933, made under the paternal pressure.
The September 23rd 1931 with Paris, which occurred Notch, Alphonse of Bourbon returned visit to his/her cousin Jacques de Bourbon (1870-1931), “duke of Anjou and Madrid”, elder of the Capétiens. The two men reconciled themselves. Two days later Jacques de Bourbon returned visit to Alphonse of Bourbon which resided at Avon (Seine-et-Marne), to the Savoy hotel. To this occasion the “duke of Anjou” (which was accompanied by Jean d' Andigné, chief of his service of honor) gave to his cousin a collar about the Holy Spirit inherited the “count de Chambord”.
Alphonse of Bourbon, deceased in exile with Rome the February 28th 1941, was buried in the monastery of the Escurial, in the North-West of Madrid.
