Biography

He carried the title of emperor whom one allotted to the sovereigns of León, as being nexts of kin to the kingdom wisigothic. This title was especially honorary. Moreover, at the same time the king d' Aragon Alphonse I {{er}} '' the Fighter '', his father-in-law, also carried this title.

He was crowned “emperor” in 1155 after the death of Alphonse d' Aragon. Its ambition was, while benefitting from the momentary weakness of the Aragon, to unify under its cut the Christian territories of Espagnes, joining again with splendors of the kingdom wisigothic.

He was the Master of the Church, and the guard of the Moslems, who formed most of his subjects. Its reign ended in a campaign without success against the growing capacity of the Almohades. Although it was not beaten, its death in the master key of Muradel in the Morena Sierra during its return to Tolède intervened in circumstances which showed that he was not the man who he claimed -- the king of two religions. Although he was a large king, the character is to a certain extent the victim of confusions of his time - Christian in belief and ambition, but more than with half Eastern in his family.
