Alphonse Lecuve

Alphonse Lecuve (1851 - 1944), against Admiral French.

Born on April 30th 1851 with Vexaincourt (the Vosges), Alphonse Lecuve is the son of Pierre Lecuve (1830 - 1869), teacher with Vexaincourt and of Marie Bart, originating in Bionville. He dies in Toulon (Var) on February 26th 1944.

Alphonse Lecuve is the brother of Charles Lecuve, mayor of Allarmont, shot like hostage in August 1914.

Career

After the maritime school of Brest (Finistere), Alphonse Lecuve becomes Lieutenant and successively serves on the Lionne (Cherbourg) then the Corrèze and the Naïade (Madagascar).

It orders in 1889 the Aviso Alouette in Indo-China (Cochinchine, Kampuchea, Tonkin).

Become Commander in 1893, it is based with Lorient then joined the squadron of the Mediterranean. In 1896, it orders sloop-transport the Eure , based with Rochefort. In 1899, it orders the Croiseur Algiers , based with Toulon.

Become captain in 1900, it orders the Cuirassé of squadron Saint Louis then the of Entrecasteaux starting from 1903. Ordering cruiser-battleships Pothuau then Desaix , it is based with this last with Tunis.

Become rear-admiral in September 1908, he is general major of the navy in Cherbourg. In 1909, he is commander-in-chief of the naval division of Tunisia and of the marine in regency.

In 1912, he becomes member of the technical Committee of the marine and president of the standing committee of tests of the buildings of the fleet. It is named member of the council of the physical Observatory of astronomy of Meudon.

It takes its retirement in April 1913 then settles in Toulon.

Alphonse Lecuve is commander in the order of the Légion of honor. He is titular medal commemorative of Madagascar. He is also commander of two Italian orders, the order of the Crown (Italy), and the Royal Order of the Saints Maurice and Lazare. In Tunisia, it was named commander of Nicham Iftikhar.
