Alphonse Karr
Alphonse Jean-Baptiste Karr , born with Paris the November 24th 1808 and died in Saint-Raphaël the September 29th 1890, is a French novelist and journalist.
It begins in the literature with its most famous novel, Under the limes , which was worth to him its entry with the Figaro. In 1836, it takes part in the Chronicle of Paris , founded by Honore de Balzac, whose publication will last only six months, but which were a merry interlude. Its novel Histoire of Romain d' Étretat makes known Étretat, where it often went. Of 1839 with 1849, it publishes a satirical review: the Wasps . It founds then the Newspaper to support the general Louis Eugene Cavaignac.
Opposed to Napoleon III, it withdraws on the Riviera after the coup d'etat of 1851. While continuing to write, it creates an establishment of Horticulture of which will be born the trade from the cut flowers. A pear, the Pear Alphonse Karr , and a bamboo, the Bambusa multiplexing Alphonse Karr , were named in its memory.
