The alphabet mandéen is based on the Aramean alphabet, and is used to write the language mandéenne.
The name mandéen for the writing is Abagada or Abaga , according to the first letters of the Alphabet.
The alphabet account 24 letters: the 22 additional letters of the alphabet araméen and two letters at the end. As the number 24 is sign of chance for the Mandéens (it is the number of hours in one day), the two additional letters are a little artificial. The 23rd letter is adu , the particle relative, and the 24th one is the first letter has repeated. As, Mandéens say as the abagada reflects alpha and the omega.
