Alonso Hernández Puertocarrero

Alonso Hernández Puertocarrero (born before 1495 with Medellín, Spain - died towards 1523, in prison, Spain), was a Spanish Conquistador which took part in exploration and the Conquête of Mexico in company of Hernán the Cortes.

Alonso Hernández Puertocarrero is born with Medellín, just like Hernán the Cortes, of Rodrigo Puertocarrero and María de Céspedes. It is resulting from a line of good nobility, being the cousin of the Count de Medellín.

As much of young Spanish of this area, it is attracted by the promises of the Nouveau World. It arrives on the island of Cuba in 1515 and receives grounds and Indians. Wanting to make fortune, it joint with the forwarding of Hernán the Cortes. This last appoints it captain and exchanges to him a gray, good mare with the race, in exchange of gold twists.

The first meetings with the Indians show exchanges of present , and in particular of young Indians. Thus the Cortes offers Malinche to Hernández Puertocarrero. Some time later, at the time of the foundation of Veracruz, he is elected alcalde city.

Having all the confidence of the Cortes, it is named prosecutor of the Nouvelle Spain. It receives the order to return in Spain in 1519, with for mission of bringing present to the king Charles Quint, but more especially of defending the policy of the Cortes, which it makes at the end of October. But it runs up against Juan Rodriguez de Fonseca, évèque of Burgos and in favor of Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar. This last finds a pretext to imprison it. He dies in prison about 1523.
