Almamy
Almamy (or Almami , or Almaami ) is the Titer which carried to and 19th centuries the war leaders Musulmans several States Peuls of West Africa, such as the Fouta-Toro (starting from 1776), the Boundou, the Melakoru, the Safroko or the emirate of the Liptako.
Etymology
The term is derived from the Arab Al-Imam or Al-Imamu , or Al Imaam El Muumiin (in Arab أميرالمؤمنين), which means Commandeur of the believers.

This title was not hereditary.

- Abdul Kader Kane (assassinated in 1807): first Almamy
- Maba Diakhou Bâ (1809 - 1867): Almamy of the RIP
- Samory Touré (1830 - 1900): most famous of them
- Bocar Biro: the fourteenth and last Almamy of the Fouta Djallon
Posterity
Nowadays the word became a proper name in certain parts of West Africa, in homage to the historical figures which carried the title. It is the case for example of Almamy Sylla, political leader Mali in, of the footballer Almamy Schuman Bah as well as musician and type-setter Malal Almamy Tall, known under the name of Foumalade.
