Alliance for the democracy with the African Mali-Party for solidarity and justice
Alliance for the democracy with the African Mali-Party for Solidarity and Justice (ADEMA/PASJ) is a political party of the Mali.
History
October 25th 1990, Alliance for the democracy in Mali (ADEMA) is created. It gathers opponents with the dictatorship of Moussa Traoré. This association gathered militants of various formations:
- the Union African democratic Sudanese woman-Gathering (US-RDA), left the former president Modibo Keïta, suspended following the coup d'etat, but which continued its activities in clandestinity.
- the Left Malian for the revolution and the democracy (PMDR)
- the Left Malian work (PMT), obedience Marxist-Leninist.
- the democratic Face and popular Malian (FDPM), primarily made up of opponents Malians residing outside and exiled political.
It also gathered militants being part of no political training.
May 25th 1991, whereas the mode of Foamed Traoré is reversed by the general Amadou Toumani Touré, the ADEMA is transformed into political party and takes the name of African ADEMA-Party for Solidarity and Justice (ADEMA-PASJ).
In 1992, the ADEMA-PASJ gains the legislative elections in February and March (76 seats out of 116) and its candidate Alpha Oumar Konaré is elected president of the republic on April 26th, 1992. This party will dominate the political scene Malian during 10 years. In 1997, Alpha Oumar Konaré is re-elected whereas the opposition boycotted these elections.
The end of the second mandate of Alpha Oumar Konaré is marked by divisions for the succession of the president. Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta leaves the ADEMA-PASJ in October 2000 with part of the militants to form the Rassemblement for Mali (RPM). Mandé Sidibé, former Prime Minister, also leaves the party to be presented to the presidential election.
In May 2002, Soumaïla Cissé was the official candidate of the ADEMA-PASJ. Arrived second at the first turn, it, with 35,65% of the voices, is beaten with the second turn by Amadou Toumani Touré. He left the party right after the elections and created a new party, the Union for the republic and the democracy (URD).
With the legislative elections of August 2002, the ADEMA-PASJ is maintained like first political clout of the country by obtaining 51 deputies.
The ADEMA-PASJ obtained approximately 28% of the voices to the communal elections of May 30th 2004.
The currency is “ Work-Solidarity-Justice ” and its symbol is the bee. Its president is Dioncounda Traoré. The vice-president was Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga. Whereas Adéma decided to support the probable candidature of Amadou Toumani Touré for the presidential election Malian of 2007, Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga decided to be presented. At the time of the national conference of the February 24th and 25th 2007, the delegates voted the exclusion of Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga, and several of its sympathizers: Issa Diarra, Ibrahima Kantao, Binta Yattassaye and Oumar Ag El Méhidi.
The ADEMA-PASJ is member of the Internationale Socialist.
