Alliance Party

The Alliance Party is a political party Fiji in with the capacity of 1966 to 1987. Founded in 1964 by Ratu Kamisese Mara, it car-dissolves in 1987 following the coups d'etat.

This one was composed of three distinct branches:

  • the " fijian Association " very largely majority within the party, represented the interests of the Fijians of origin mélanésienne, concentrating on average 80% of the votes of the latter at the time of the elections to the Community poll.
  • the " General Electors Association " was as for it primarily made up of Europeans, mongrel or Chinese. Although number it was the smallest component of the party, it is it which weighed most financially. Following the dissolution of Alliance Party, it was structured in true party under designation " General voters party"
  • L'" Indian Association " the second component of the party nevertheless far derrèire was of number the " Fidjian Association". Its credibility within the Fijians of Indian origin was lower. Many its initial founders left it for little by little joining the " National Federation Party ". Others which on the contrary had begun their political career within the NFP made the opposite way. It is for example the case of Irene Jai Narayan and which although elected of Suva since 1966 for the NFP, adhered for the elections of 1987 to the " Indian Association" for reasons that some qualified the opportunist ones. It justified this reversal by this remark altogether not very premonitory: " Let us look at the things opposite, whether it is liked or not, Alliance will remain with the capacity still a long time ". Two other former members of the NFP followed it in Indian Association the same year.

After its dissolution in 1987, the Soqosoqo neither Vakavulewa nor Taukei (SVT), left founded by Sitiveni Rabuka, presented a time like its successor.
