Allentown (Pennsylvania)

Allentown is a city located in the Comté of Lehigh, of which it is the chief town, in Pennsylvania, the United States. According to the census of 2000, it counts: 106632 inhabitants, which makes the third city of the State of it after Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Densité : 1  000,3  hab/km ² (2  591,1  hab/mi ²). History

It was founded in 1762 by William Allen, an outstanding figure of the American Révolution and one of the first mayors of Philadelphia. Allen baptized the Northamptontown city. However, it was called “  Allen' S Town  ”. It is built-in as a borough in 1811. In 1838, 58  years after the death of Allen, the city was officially named Allentown.

The Cedar Crest College and the Muhlenberg College are established there.

Personalities

The pianist Keith Jarrett was born in Allentown in 1945.

The album The Nylon Curtain (1982) of Billy Joel contains a song whose title is “  Allentown  ”.

The writer Lauren Weisberger passed his childhood to Allentown.
