Allauch

Allauch (pronounce “hello”) is a common French, located in the department of the Rhone delta and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure. Its inhabitants is called Allaudiens.

It is one of the more old cities of France (at the origin a village).

Geography

Allauch is a chief town of canton of the Rhone delta (13) area Provence the Alps Riviera. It belongs to the Urban community Marseilles Provence Métropole. The commune located at an average altitude of 228 m counted 18.907 inhabitants at the time of the census of 1999. It is distant of 780 km Paris, 12 km of Marseilles, 35 km of Aix-en-Provence.

Situation

The city is in the center of an immense circus consisted the chain of the star in north, the Garlaban in the east and the chaïne of Saint-Cyr military school in the south. The commune has a main forest protected from 4.000 hectares (nearly 80% of the surface of the commune) of which the greatest part is covered with the hills sung by Pagnol and by Giono. Allauch-Village , the historical core of the commune, concentrates only one weak part of the inhabitants (2 619 inhabitants in 1999). The other most urbanized districts or village cores are: the Home-Nine (6 878 inhabitants), Pounche (3 617 inhabitants), Fontvieille, Magpie of Autry.

History

. One of the objects found in the cave of the Balsam Sourno (obscure cave) was perhaps used as gift of wedding with the young person Gyptis. Economy and tourism

In 1999 on the 7.592 allaudiens having an employment 1.583 worked in the commune, 5.717 in another commune of the Aix-Marseilles agglomeration, 156 in another commune of the department. On 3.032 allaudiens employment, 1.449 are occupied by workers living out of the commune.

The Park of Activities of Fontvieille created in 1981 is the heart of the economic life of the commune. The acceptable criterion of establishment by the municipal council is based on the respect of the framework of life by the installation of activities not creating harmful effects, nor of pollution. The principal activities are around two poles: agro-alimentary (nougats, coffees), small advanced technology industry.

The deficit in social housing

Each Allauch year pays approximately 200.000 € under the missing social housing to reach the 20% required by the Loi SRU. However, according to the commune, the grounds available are limited: on the 5.032 ha of commune 4.000 are in total protection of nature, 500 ha are already urbanized and it balance is sometimes concerned with risks (flood, collapse, fires, etc). However the recent increases in price of the constructible grounds have as a consequence an increasing difficulty to produce social housing. The Municipal council decided that each overall operation should include/understand between 20% and 30% of social housing. However First obstacle, the commune has only few grounds in the constructible zones ready to receive social housing (near the schools, of the trade, the services, public transport, etc to avoid creating “ghettos”). The value of these grounds is very high and the commune must sell well to the social operators in lower part of the actual value. Who more is the commune must guarantee 50% of the loans necessary and take part financially in the operation sometimes up to 20.000 € by housing. The procedures are slow it easily runs out 3 or 4 years between the compromise of sale and the delivery of the first housing.

Another brake: for 2006,108 requests for social housing (Ready Locatives Social) were formulated by the commune, only 48 were granted by the urban community, to which the state delegated its powers, whereas the State forces to build 64 residences per annum.

Monuments

Ruins of the Castle of Ners in the small valley of Pichauris.
