History

Crowned by the ruins of the old village (completely abandoned at the end of the 19th century, new Allan, in the past called " Bégude" , is located at 6 km in the south of Montélimar. It belongs to Drome Provencale and account currently approximately 1.500 inhabitants. It is a very active village, very alive, animated by many associations.
To live or make sport with Allan, it is as, for little as one is curious about history, discovering its rich person passed while climbing at the strengthened village girds by a barry or bored rampart of 4 doors (the Fountain, Porte New, Porte of Monjoux, Porte Northern of the castle).

It was had by 3 seigneuriales big families which built 2 castles there:

  • Adhémar de Monteil, lords of Montélimar
  • Poitiers valentinois (and Poitiers d' Allan)
  • the Pope Saint-Auban
The last representing of this famous family was Mrs Hippolyte Lérigée of Faye which will die out in 1814, leaving with her heirs the care to finish very long and very coùuteux lawsuit which had opposed it to the community during nearly 30 years. In 1857, the village in bottom, in Bégude was declared only center parochial then communal: the life at the perched village was very difficult, the rocky ways, high; practical communications not very: progress was in the plain… Force was to give up narrow, decayed, wet houses little by little to settle in bottom. This transfer of population was done in tearing and the baffle. In 1878, with the auction (bidding) were sold materials of the town hall (common house) of the church Saint-Jean-Baptist, of the cemeteries… Thus progress goes… but old Allan is very proud all the same that currently an association consolidates it, makes it visit, putting it at the honor after years of abandonment.
