Allaire Jean-Baptist-Arthur

Jean-Baptist-Arthur Allaire (July 22nd 1866 - October 9th 1943) is a priest and a Canadian historian. Author of the biographical dictionary of the clergy Canadian-French , his investigations into the clergy of 19th and 20th century remain a reference today.

Born with Saint-Barnabe-South, it makes its studies with the Séminaire of Saint-Hyacinthe and the Université Laval of 1876 with 1890, then obtains its arts Bacclauréat. Ordered by Mgr Louis-Zéphirin Moreau in 1890, he is in turn vicar, priest and missionary with Saint-Hilaire, Holy-Rosalie, Saint-Magpie, Saint-Dominique, Saint-Denis and Holy-Angele-with-Monnoir, Worcester, Saint-Roch, Beloeil, Upton, Adamsville, Saint-Thomas-with Aquin, Holy-Cecile-with-Milton, Mount-Saint-Gregoire and Saint-Liboire.

After a short disease in 1897, it worked as a Aumônier and specialized in the evangelization of the rural areas. He travelled in Belgium, France and to the the United Kingdom, then he was named responsible for the agricultural Social action, Archidiacre of the Diocèse of Saint-Hyacinthe and chaplain of the catholic Union of the farmers. He impassioned himself by the parochial history of Saint-Denis-on-Richelieu and the origins of the agricultural Coopération. Founder of the Company of regional history of Saint-Hyacinthe, it created also the newspaper the agricultural Co-operator and collaborated in the Platform of Saint-Hyacinthe .

In 1928, it was named honorary Chanoine with the Cathédrale of Saint-Hyacinthe, after which it was withdrawn with the Séminaire of Saint-Hyacinthe to write the Album of the secular clergy of the diocese of Saint-Hyacinthe and the biographical dictionary of the clergy Canadian-French . Deceased the October 9th 1943, its body rests in the Crypte seminar.
