All Drunk persons College (complete name: The College off All Drunk persons off the Faithful Departed, off Oxford ) is one of the colleges constitutive of the Université of Oxford, with the the United Kingdom.

All Souls is a completely singular college in Oxford because all its members are automatically fellows , i.e. members of the council directing the college.

Each year, among the undergraduates (student preparing the bachelor' S dismantles) which passes their diploma of end of studies, those having the best results are invited to pass a particular contest to become fellow of All Souls. Two only are elected each year. This is why to be fellow of All Souls is seen in the United Kingdom like one of the more university great honors. These fellows is known under the name of Prize Fellows , the duration of their function is seven years, and they are about a dozen in the college at the same time. The other categories are those of Senior Research Fellows , Post-Doctoral Research Fellows , Fifty-Pound Fellows (open only to old the Fellows which does not have any more a station in Oxford) and Distinguished Fellows . There is also many Professorial Fellows which draws their function from their station in the University.

All Souls is one of the richest colleges, with a budget estimated at £144m in 2003 (either approximately 213 million euros).

History

The college was founded by Henri VI of England er Henry Chichele ( fellow of New College and Archevêque of Canterbury), in 1438. The statutes then envisaged a director and forty fellows - all having to be ordered; twenty-four of them studying the Social sciences ( arts ), the Philosophy and the Theology: and sixteen devoting itself to the civil law and canonical. Today, the college before a whole place of university research.

Habits

Every hundred years, a commemorative Fête takes place during which the fellows parade around the college with ignited torches, singing the song of Mallard carried out not a “Lord Mallard” who is related to a chair, with required of a Canard mallard (English mallard) fictitious which would have flown away since the foundations of the college when this one was built. The last ceremony took place in 2001, the next one will thus take place in 2101.
