Allâhâbâd

Allâhâbâd (Hindi: इलाहाबाद, Ourdou الاهاباد ilāhābād ) is an Indian city south of the State of Uttar Pradesh, with the confluence of the Gange and Yamuna.

The current city is built with the site of the old holy city of Prayag, and accommodates every twelve years an important festival Hindou, the Kumbhamelâ. Allâhâbâd was founded under the name of Al-Ilhahabad , by the emperor moghol Akbar in 1583.

At the beginning of the 20th century, then integral part of the British empire, the city was re-elected for her university, was called the Oxford of the East .

Allahabad is the birthplace of Jawaharlal Nehru. This city gave to India more Prime Ministers that any other city of the country.
