Alison Bechdel
Alison Bechdel is a Dessinatrice of the United States, born the September 10th 1960 with Lock Haven, in Pennsylvania.
Biography
Little girl, Alison Bechdel was a real tomboy and drew only men, constrained by the image stereotyped of the women in the literature of youth. It is in first year of University that she was discovered lesbian. She drew her stories of lesbians in her mail deprived with friends, who encouraged it to send her boards to Womanews . This feminist review of New York started to publish the series Dykes to Watch Out For (Lesbians to be followed) as from 1983. From 1990, thanks to the success of the series, Alison Bechdel could live only of its work of dessinatrice. She lives since in the Vermont.She recognizes the influence of the review Mad and authors such as Norman Rockwell, Jane Austen, Robert Crumb, Howard Cruse, inter alia. She also published drawings in The Washington Blade , Real Girl , Bay Times (San Francisco), Gay Comix , The Village Voice , Off Our Backs .
Since July 2006, Libération publishes in its book " été" its autobiographical work Fun Home .
Fun Home obtains a public success which largely exceeds waitings of its auteure, which thought of touching only its usual assistantship: in December 2006, the work arrives in first place of the list of the 10 best books of the year of Time magazine. In January 2007, Fun Home is officially selected with the International festival of the cartoon of Angouleme.
