Alire Raffeneau-Delile

Alire Raffeneau-Delile , born the January 23rd 1778 and died in Paris the July 5th 1850, is a Botaniste French.

He takes part with Bonaparte in the Campagne of Egypt from which he brings back the Lotus and the Papyrus. He is in charge of the part Botanique Voyage in the Low one and High-Egypt of Vivant Denon.

In 1832, whereas it occupies the function of vice-consul of France in North Carolina, it is named director of the Botanical garden of Montpellier. It brings back two feet of Maclura which it plants with the garden of Montpellier where one can still see them. It enriches the Herbier by Montpellier of much of Espèce S. Two kind S are allotted to him: Delilia and Raffenaldia .

He was also professor of Natural history to Montpellier.

He is specialized in the ptéridophytes, the Mycologie, the Bryophyte S, the Algue S and the spermatophytes.
