Alignment

The alignment is a system Logiciel which makes it possible to recreate the movements of a real camera on a virtual camera. The system is used either to integrate a real person turned on a blue or green bottom in a virtual decoration, or to integrate a virtual character in a real decoration turned with a camera which moves.

To arrive at a good alignment, it is necessary to follow some stages which start on the place of turning.

On turning

Generally, they are the assistants of the chief of the special Effets which deal with this stage. It is a question here of positioning reference marks on decorations, which are visible enough for the continuation and not too much to be removed easily. Then, it is necessary to precisely measure the distance between each reference mark and to make a detailed plan of the whole of the scene.

Then, one recreates all the decoration in 3D on the scale according to the plan created during turning in a software of 3D.

Analyzes sequences

When the post-production begins, a technician receives all the plans, it will have to analyze each plan, to know which focal distance is used, if there is a zoom, the movement of the camera. Then, the film will be transformed into sequence of images.

Importation of the sequence

There exist many programs of alignment (Matchmover of Realviz), in the majority of the programs of 3D, there is a system of alignment (Maya Live for Maya, Cameras match for 3DS max,…). It is here that one says to the program the focal distance used, if there is had zoom and the movement of the camera.

Alignment

Here the alignment starts strictly speaking. One places here points - “Tracker” - on the real reference marks. One launches the alignment and the program will automatically follow the reference mark until it loses sight of the fact it. One makes this stage on all the points present on the scene.

Solving

At this stage of the process, the tracker move only in 2 dimensions. It is here that one will import the reproduction of the scene in 3D in the program. One will make coincide each tracker with the points which correspond to them on the scene 3D. The solving is launched. The program will interpret the movements 2D each tracker according to their position in the scene 3D to have the movement of camera.

Finale

Now that one has the faithful movement of the camera, one will be able to import it in a software of 3D if it is not already inside.
