Alice Sebold

Alice Sebold born the September 6th 1963 with Madison, Wisconsin, is an American novelist .

Biography

She always wanted to be a novelist. After its college, she attended the Université of Syracuse starting from 1980. She published two works, Lucky and the Nostalgia of the angel (The Lovely Bones ). Its novels are mainly based on its personal experience.

Whereas it was 18 years old and that it was new with Syracuse, it was attacked and violated in a park close to the university. She was hospitalized. Once of return to Syracuse, after a few months, to resume its studies, she recognized her attacker and made so that it is stopped.

After having obtained its diploma in Syracuse, it goes to the Texas for schools. Then, she moves with Manhattan for 10 years. She makes various stations as waitress and continuous consider her career of writer. She wanted to tell her history by poetry, but does not reach that point. She tests drug to manage the memory of her rape. She speaks again readily of this period with a critical glance: " I did has batch off things that I amndt not particularly proud off and that I edge' T believe that I did" (I made not badly things of which I am not particularly proud and which I cannot believe that I have make). She leaves Manhattan and goes in California of the South, where she becomes managing of a colony of artists with wages of $386 per month, alive in a hut in wood, without electricity. She wrote with the gleam of a lamp with gas.

Later, it approaches the the University of California (Irvine) in 1995. It is with UCI that it begins Lucky , of the memories in which it tells its rape in Syracuse. The name of the book comes from a reflection of the police officer who says to him that it had had chance not to be killed, since a girl previously had been violated and killed at the same place. It starts by aiming at an account of 10 pages (which will make some in fact 40) for its group of studies.

After the publication of Lucky in 1999, she writes the novel the Nostalgia of the angel (The Lovely Bones ) in 2002. The Auckland Writers and Readers Festival presents this novel like deserving to be a best seller, for its artistic quality and its astonishing capacity to move. The novel presents the history of a 14 year old girl who is violated and killed. The historie is presented with the point of view of that which is thus violated and assassinated, since the stay of late, with the sky, from where it looks at the world, and in particular difficulties caused in its family to assume this mourning… inter alia so that his/her sister manages to live without being the shade of the late one.

It is during the written setting of this novel that it meets her husband Glen David Gold with the UCI in 1995. Arrived late, he did not manage to remove his helmet of motor bike. It was the occasion to know and to marry in November 2001.

It is by conviction that she writes on violence. According to its interview near the Publisher Weekly , she is persuaded that violence is present in the life of each one; although this experiment is horrible, it should not be believed that touches only one small number.
