Alice Comedies
The " Alice Comedies" is a series of cartoons produced by Walt Disney with the whole beginning of its career with Hollywood. In this series, a fore-mentioned young girl Alice lives in Cartoonland , a world of drawings animated, with inter alia characters a cat named Julius .
History
In 1923, Walt Disney, Ub Iwerks and their members of Laugh-O-Grams, Inc. based with Kansas City launches out in the production of a short film in addition to advertizing animations. The film is entitled Alice' S Wonderland and combines the catches of real sights of a little girl and animations during 10 minutes. The team has just time to finish the short film when the studio is declared in bankruptcy in July 1923. The film is thus not presented to the public. Walt Disney is a work of photographer and joins together enough money to leave to Los Angeles to join his/her brother Roy and its uncle Robert.
In California, Roy assistance to assemble a studio named Disney Brothers Studio . Walt tries to find a distributer for the series Alice Comedie by using the pilot created in Kansas City. It envoit a copy of the episode controls with several distributers. Walt Disney obtains then a contract with Winkler Pictures, studio directed by Margaret Winkler and her husband-to-be Charles Mintz. The contract then stipulates a payment of 1.500 $ by films (maximum duration from approximately 9 min). He persuades his former colleagues and the family of Virginia Davis to come to join it in California to continue the series.
The series
The series Alice Comedies includes/understands 54 dumb short films in black and white carried out by the Disney studios between 1924 and 1927. In these films, another real character appears played by Spec O'Donnell.
Alice' S Wonderland: the pilot
Alice' S Wonderland is the name of the pilot short film of the series. This short film defines the world in which then the character of Alice will evolve/move.
The synopsis of the pilot is the following:
- the young Alice enters a studio of cartoons to see as the latter are created. The characters of the drawings take life and play around Alice who is delighted by these visions. The come night, Alice is turned over in her bed and dreams of the world of toons which accommodate it and play with it. After some plays, a danger occurs. A group of lions escapes from a cage and takes the young girl in hunting.

Julius has a strong resemblance to Felix the Cat and this one is not accidental. Charles Mintz which distributed also the series of Felix of Pat Sullivan insisted at Disney in this direction in order to emulate the success of Felix.

Black Pete (prémice of Stalemate Hibulaire) made its first appearance in Alice Solves the Puzzle left the February 15th 1925 and becomes malicious recurring of the series before continuing with Mickey Mouse.

a legend would like that the character of Clarabelle Cow made to its first appearance in Alice one the Farm in 1926 but the cow of this film is white and resembles Clarabelle only by its bovine state.
