Ali Soilih

Ali Soilih (January 7th 1937 - May 29th 1978) is a politician and old Comorian president .

Biography

Born with Majunga with Madagascar, it made there its studies until the second. Once obtained its diploma of Agronomy, it returns to the the Comoros and works in agriculture during two years. After training course in the Educational establishment of Tropical Agriculture of Nogent-sur-Marne, it follows a training course of the Institute of Study of Economic development and Social (IEDES).

Returned in the Comoros, it is named Directeur of the company of Economic development of the Comoros (SODEC). In August 1967, it is elected appointed. Said Ibrahim Ben Ali appoints it Minister for the Equipment and Tourism in September 1970. Maoïste convinced, it seizes the power by a coup d'etat in 1975 with the blessing of France and fact for the first time call to mercenaries under the command of Bob Denard, which will become a recurring method. Ali Soilih becomes officially president of the revolutionary council in January 1976. At once, it sets up a Marxist policy which, being given the strategic position of the Comoros in the Indian Ocean, condemns it to the eyes of the Westerners.

During its reign, it tries to mark the company by removing good number of habits considered to be retrograde, supports the emancipation of the young people and of the women, the use of the cannabis legalizes. Important efforts on the infrastructures are also made. Its “modernization” of the Comorian company is made with the image Cultural revolution Chinese. For that it founds militia high-school girls which make reign terror, act as an political police and claim to exert themselves the judicial power. One does not count the abusive imprisonments and tortures in the cisterns and the military camps. One could qualify this mode of “Republic of Beardless” (Mohamed Toihiri) and of “independence in the cistern” (Ali Abdou Elaniou, Comorian lawyer which tried out and told the operation of Justice under this mode). The construction of the public buildings was possible thanks to the forced labors imposed on notable and to the opponents. During this time, a special military body the “commandos mwassis” is devoted to raids, massacres in the hostile villages (Iconi and Me Blessed).

The May 13rd 1978, the French mercenary Bob Denard reverse in its turn by a coup d'etat. Whereas Ahmed Abdallah finds the capacity, Soilih finds death under not very clear conditions. The fall of Soilih causes demonstrations of joy in the three islands (Anjouan, Mohéli and Grande Comore).

Ali Soilih is considered today per many Comorians as a just statesman which carried in him a vision with a future. There remains the only Comorian president who wanted a true change in spite of the incompetence of the young village committees (commando mwassi). For others, whereas no institution functioned, it gathered between its hands the totality of the capacities and finances of which it used with its own way. These hold it responsible for the reaction of the successive capacities and the introduction of the modes mercenaries which succeeded to him.
