Algiers republican

Algiers Républicain (الجزائرالجمهورية) is a Algerian Quotidien founded in 1938, by Pascal Pia.

Albert Camus will be journalist there, like Kateb Yacine. It is called the “small beggar” by the press colonialist, because of his financial problems and of the many seizures. Of tendency progressist, it is close to the Algerian Communist party without however being affiliated there. It was interdict in 1939 and 1955. Its editor association is Henri Alleg until in 1965.

During the war of Algeria, the many ones of his/her collaborators were killed for Algerian independence, like Henri Maillot, Georges Rafini, Amar Khalouf, Abdelkader Benamara, Mourad Has Saada, Abdelhamid Benzine, Abdelkader Choukhal.

With independence, it is the first newspaper of Algeria in term of pulling (75 000), in front of the body of FLN (“People”). It is interdict for the third time the June 19th 1965 following the coup d'etat of Houari Boumediene.
