Algicide
A algicide is an active substance to kill (Biocide) or to fight against the development of the Algue S, in particular the unicellular algae developing in the places attended by the man or on the dwellings.
When one uses an algicide in a swimming pool or a pond, one can use less Chlore for the purification of water, which makes water more pleasant for the stroke, without the tinglings of the eyes and the nose that a too important use of chlorine causes. The regular use of algicides also prolongs the duration of " vie" system of filtration of water, since there is less of vegetable materials to stop the filters and entries of the pump.
Chemical algicides
The Copper sulfate is an algicide which can be used in the swimming pools, with nontoxic concentrations for the man. The copper sulfate is also employed to fight against the alga Caulerpa taxifolia .The Irgarol, more poison, is used to protect the hulls from the boats.
Natural algicides
Certain organizations produce natural algicides to fight against ecological competitors, within the framework of the allelopathic fight. The fresh water angiosperme Myriophyllum spicatum (Haloragaceae) emits polyphenols algicides and cyanobactéricides (ellagic Acide, Catéchine…), of which most active is the Tellimagrandine II, which inhibits the Photosynthèse Cyanobactérie S and others Phototrophe S and inactive the extracellular Enzyme S of these organizations by complexation. The Cyanobactérie S Scytonema hofmannii (by the means of the Cyanobactérine) and Fischerella muscicola (via the Fischerelline has) act in the same way on photosynthesis.
