Alfred de Dreux

Alfred de Dreux (born and died in Paris, May 23rd 1810, March 5th 1860) is a French portraitist and animalist painter who specialized in the representation of the horse.

Biography

Wire of the architect price of Rome, Pierre-Anne de Dreux and nephew of the painter Pierre-Joseph de Dreux, he knew at the time of his childhood Theodore Géricault which made its portrait. He had as professor Isabey and Leon Cogniet which wanted to make a painter of history of it. He makes his career by carrying out several equestrian portraits of the family members of Orleans and later of Napoleon III. He dies in a duel killed by the Count Fleury, aide-de-camp of the emperor, the cause would be in relation to the portrait of Napoleon III.
