Alfred Schmitt was a Astronome French, which worked with the Observatoire of Algiers in the Années 1930 and 1940 then with the royal Observatoire of Belgium to Uccle, in the Années 1950. Its publications all are signed A. Schmitt , as it was of use in this profession at the time.
He discovered four Astéroïde S.
Between 1940 and 1948, it married his/her colleague Odette Bancilhon.
It is very probable that the asteroid (1617) Alschmitt, discovered by his/her colleague of Algiers Louis Boyer, bears his name.
