Alfred Rossel , born with Cherbourg (Handle) the March 6th 1841 and died in the same city the December 17th 1926, is a Norman Chansonnier.
Biography
Alfred Rossel starts to compose about 1872 for regional festivals and folk companies. Fortunately, it can be detached from these sources of inspiration and, among about fifty songs of good arrival, one can affirm that a good fortnight are successes.It is the most famous chansonnier normannisant, always sung in the assemblies Normans as in the family festivals. Its texts are written in language Norman of Cotentin, or Cotentinais, with the area of Cherbourg or the La Hague, and mixes spoken and sung.
Charles Gohel, his interpreter fetish, accompanied it during more than fifty years.
One must in Alfred Rossel have also inspired with Louis Beuve towards 1890 his vocation of Poète of expression Norman, thanks to the popularity of his songs in the area of Cherbourg.
Edmond-Marie Poullain was member of the committee, promoter, and a dedicated apostle of the edition of works of Alfred Rossel, work for which it carried out two etchings.
Work
Its songs knew several editions, of which most recent is due to André Dupont, Chansons Normans , Coutances, OCEP, 1974.Association Magène also recorded " Known the mé" , the most famous song of this author, in his CD " Magene in concert" , in 2001.
