Alfred Mongy
Alfred Mongy (May 1840, June 1914) was an engineer inhabitant of Lille who took part much in the development of the metropolis inhabitant of Lille, in particular by his contributions in the field of transport.
Originating in a modest family and brilliance raises, he enters the municipal services of its birthplace at 19 years. He will carry out a brilliant career to it: twenty years later, he becomes the chief of the service of municipal work.
He will direct the construction of many public buildings (university schools, institutes, buildings), the restoration of the Porte of Paris.
He leaves the town hall in 1896 and launches out in a career of independent after four years to the prefectoral services. He carries out a great project then: the opening of the grand boulevard between Lille, Roubaix and Tourcoing. The project appears disproportionate at the time, but on December 4th 1909, the boulevard, broad, 50 m is inaugurated.
It accommodates on two ways a fast Tramway which will be called " Mongy". Many modifications were made but two lines of Mongy always currently exist with some settings in underground with the crucial passages.
