Alfred Kempe

Alfred Bray Kempe (July 6th, 1849, Kensington, London - April 21st, 1922, London) was a mathematician known mainly for his work on the Théorème of the four colors.

Kempe studied with the Trinity College of Cambridge, where Arthur Cayley was one of its professors.

In 1879, it published a " preuve" Theorem of the four colors, which proved finally false in 1890. The concepts developed in this proof are not less important and opened the road towards a correct proof.
