Alfonso of Cueva
Alfonso of Cueva , marquis of Bedmar, Spanish prelate, born in 1572.
Being ambassador of Philippe III with Venice in 1618, it conspired against this republic with the governor of Milan and the viceroy of Naples, and formed the project to deliver the city to the Spain. Conspiracy having been discovered; it moved away precipitately. It was since governor of Flanders, bishop of Malaga and Oviedo; the pope named it cardinal in 1622. He died in 1655.
the history of the Conspiration of Venice was written by Saint-Réal. The fact of the conspiracy, disputed a long time, was put out of doubt by the documents published by Leopold von Ranke at Berlin in 1831.
