Alfonso Caso

Alfonso Caso Andrade (born in 1896 with Mexico City - Mexico City, November 30th 1970) was a Mexican archeologist there.

Biography

After studies of Philosophy, Right and archeology to the National university, he taught the Archéologie of Mexico (1929-1943) and the general Ethnologie (1930-1933) at the national school of the high studies then at the National school of anthropology (1939-1943) of which he contributed to the foundation.

He was chief of the department of archeology of the National museum of archeology, history and ethnography, current the National museum of anthropology (1930-1933) then his director in 1933-1934. He was also vice-chancellor of the autonomous National university of Mexico between 1944 and 1945, and accepted the national price of sciences in 1960. In the Years 1960, it published its interpretations of many codex.

It is known to have directed excavations with Monte Albán between 1931 and 1943; it put at it at the day 176 tombs, of which one contained a treasure (talk with the museum of Oaxaca). He became specialist in the culture Mixtèque and led excavations to Atzompa Yucuñudahui (1948-1949).

Author of almost 300 works, it made known the past, the art and the religions of the Natives of the Mexico, in particular the Aztèques, the Mixtèques and the Zapotèques of which it deciphered the Hiéroglyphes.
