Buthrote (Albanian Butrint or Butrinti ) is a Ville and an archaeological site in Albania, near to the Greek border .
Founded by the Illyrie NS, it was taken by the Romains in -167. It was later occupied by the Byzantine Empire and the republic of Venice, before being abandoned during the Moyen-âge.
The ruins, released after the Second world war, include a Amphithéâtre, Roman baths, a vault of the 5th century, a Basilique of the 6th century, a door of the city (called " Carry of Lion"), and a medieval fortress dating from the 14th century, currently occupied by a museum. The ruins of Butrint are registered on the Liste of the world heritage of UNESCO since 1992.
Butrint is accessible since Saranda, by a road built in 1959 to accommodate Nikita Khrouchtchev.
