Alexis or the Treaty of the vain combat is a novel of Marguerite Yourcenar, published in 1929. It is held in Austria, the day before the First World War.
In a letter, Alexis, young 24 year old musician, described with its Monique wife the “vain combat” that it carries out since of the years against the nature of its major desires and which leads it to break: love of the men.
