Biography
At the 15 years age, in 1919, Kossyguine joined the Red Army and fights in the Russian Civil war. He studies then with the co-operative college of Leningrad, works in Siberia and enters to the Communist party in 1927. During years 1930 it follows courses to the textile Institute of Leningrad, then works as engineer and crosses the various levels until becoming managing director of the textile factory Oktyabrskaya of Leningrad. In the middle of the years 1930, the Grandes Purgings of Stalin leaves many empty places in the administration of the Party. This situation makes it possible Kossyguine to start to work there full-time in 1938, initially with the head of the department of the industry and transport of the Party in Leningrad, then as mayor of Leningrad. In 1939, it enters to the Soviet cabinet as police chief of the people for textile industry. The same year, he is elected at the central committee of the Communist party. From 1940 to 1946, it occupies the functions of vice-president of the Conseil of the police chiefs of the people of the USSR responsible for industries of consumption, and the functions of Prime Minister for the RSFR of 1943 to 1946.
After the patriotic Great War, training Kossyguine devirnt member of the Politburo, then a full member in 1948. He briefly exerts the functions of Minister for Finance of the USSR in 1948, then of Minister for light industry until 1953.
The death of Stalin in March 1953 initially carries a blow to its career, but it is not long in being started again as a devoted ally of Nikita Khrouchtchev. In 1959, he becomes president of the Committee of State of the USSR for the Plan then in 1960 full member of the Présidium (as one called Politburo then).
When Khrouchtchev is isolated capacity in October 1964, Kossyguine takes again its position as Soviet Prime Minister in what constituted at the beginning a troika with Leonid Brejnev as general secretary and Anastase Mikoyan (and later Nikolaï Podgornyï) as president.
Kossyguine endeavoured to carry out economic reforms. it wished that the Soviet economy privileges less heavy industry and the military production and rather stresses the light industry and the production of consumer goods. Brejnev did not support this policy and thwarted the reforms of Kossyguine.
At the end of the years 1970, Brejnev became the uncontested Master of the Soviet Union. Even if Kossyguine preserves its position of Prime Minister and remains member of Politburo until 1980, its position becomes increasingly fragile.
After being falls ill, Kossyguine is isolated of its functions in October 1980 and dies a few weeks later.
The name of Alexey Nikolaïevitch Kossyguine was given to the textile Institute of State of Moscow (called after 1991 “textile Academy of State of Moscow” and after 1999 “textile Academy of State of Moscow A.N. Kossyguine”).
